NYSA Course Information

Which Coaching Course Should I Take?

One of the most frequently asked questions for the coaching department at the NYSA office is "Which coaching course should I sign up for?"

An accurate response to this question is very dependent on the person asking and typically requires further information to decide on the appropriate course. The questions that need to be answered are:

1) What age group are you currently coaching?

2) Do you have any coaching licenses?

Many coaches do not realize that the NYSA coaching education program is age specific. A popular misconception is that the "E" Certificate course should be the first coaching course taken. Many times this is not the case. The "E" Certificate course and the "D" License course are the basic level and introductory courses respectively from the United States Soccer Federation (USSF) Coaching Education program. As one of the 55 Youth Soccer State Associations, it is our responsibility to deliver these courses on behalf of the USSF. The "D" course is a prerequisite to the "C" license which in turn is a prerequisite for the "B" License and ultimately the "A" license.

NYSA Coaching Requirements

Nevada Youth Soccer Assn. (NYSA) requires all coaches to be licensed prior to participating in State Cup or traveling to any Out-of-State Tournaments. For coaches with age groups U/12 and below, participation in Youth Module I or II is required, depending on the age group. All coaches are given a one year grace period to accomplish the following requirements:

U/5-U/12 recreational coaches have one (1) year to complete the age appropriate NYSA Youth Module.

U/11 and up recreational coaches have one (1) year to obtain the NYSA "E" Certificate.

U/11 and up competitive coaches have one (1) year to obtain the NYSA State/National "D" license.

Every coach must have completed, prior to the start of the next seasonal year, an age appropriate Youth Module/License. Age appropriate is defined as:

  • U/5 – U/8 Minimum Youth Module I
  • U/9 – U/12 Minimum Youth Module II
  • U/11 and above Minimum State "E" Certificate
  • U/11 and above (competitive) Minimum State/National "D" License

Coaches are expected to be familiar with the requirements of the NYSA Risk Management Policy and Zero Tolerance Policy.
